The King of Bollywood Graces Filmfare

Shahrukh Khan is on the December 2010 cover of Filmfare magazine looking fresh and adorable.

Freida Pinto on Harper's Bazaar

Freida Pinto looks absolutely lovely on the December issue of Harper's Bazaar India. I love the femininity of the cover.

Western Designers Inspired by South Asia

I've noticed that more and more designers in Europe and America have been inspired by South Asian cultures, especially in accessories and clothing. Surely you've all noticed sari fabric, gold beads, colorful bangles, drop necklaces, chandelier earrings, and sequins appearing in almost every designers collection. Thanks to the popularity of Bollywood today, these very essences of desi culture have become part of Western fashion.

I've tracked down various places where you can view and purchase contemporary jewelry and accessories that have been inspired by the very culture of Pakistan and India.

This statement piece is by Coach. This gold necklace made up of beads, chains, and charms. Busy necklaces = South Asian Necklaces.

$198

Style Icon: Sonam Kapoor

I have rarely posted about Sonam Kapoor, who happens to be one of the most stylish and unique-looking actress/model in the Bollywood industry. Daughter of 90's icon, Anil Kapoor, Sonam paved her way into the industry 3 years ago and stood out from the rest due to her ability to look timelessly classic  and then pull off edgy and couture.

Sonam is one of my favorite fashionistas in the film industry, and she deserves to be acknowledged. While actor Imran Khan was quoted saying that Sonam should do "less magazine covers and more movies" on Season 3 of Koffee with Karan, Sonam has proven that she is able to do both brilliantly.

Priyanka Chopra on Vogue

Priyanka Chopra landed the cover of Vogue India's November 2010  Sari Issue, and I have to say that I am absolutely head over heels for it. Everything about it is stunning, from her clothes to her make up, to her expression to her hair. Posing in a cream colored dress, hemmed with shiny zari often seen in saris, the black ribbon tied at her waist makes the perfect finish for this fashion-forward outfit. She is one of my favorite fashionistas in Bollywood. Love her!

Vidya in a Backless Sari for FHM

One of the things I loved most about Vidya Balan was the fact that she was always traditional compared to the other leading actresses in Bollywood. Despite the many jabs she faced from the other women about being "old beauty" and "old fashioned" (in a negative light), Vidya always had the last laugh with her superb acting and even her Filmfare win this year. That being said, it was surprising to me to see that the talented actress posed backless in a sari for FHM's November 2010 cover. The reason? Sadly, most likely to get attention. Perhaps she felt that she needed to prove that she actually is sexy, but I have to say, the way to do that is to get a better stylist. The attention, in return, would have been a positive one.

Monday

Style Pix

I found a variety of pictures of models and B-wood actresses that I had to share. These outfits represent  traditional, fusion, and couture that South Asia seeps. That's one of the things I love most about my heritage: all three categories are always in style.

Update on My Etsy Shop

About a week ago, I shared my Etsy shop with you guys, which I was just starting out. I added many more items (a total of 23--my lucky number!--as of November 7, 2010). I have a variety of necklaces, earrings, accessories, and bracelets. I love all things feminine and girlie, so my shop really reflects my personality in that way. I hope you get a chance to check out my shop (http://www.Aqsa.etsy.com) and see if anything interests you.

Enjoy!

Katrina's Harper's Bazaar Pix

Katrina Kaif recently posed for a photoshoot for India's October 2010 Harper's Bazaar issue. The photos are stunning and her outfits are lovely. The first two pictures are my favorite. I can definitely see Katrina as a model more than an actress, as it is obvious that she is a natural model.
